Benazir protesters ghero parliament..mass rally on friday

Police swung batons and fired many rounds tear gas to quell rally opposite Parliament house in Islamabad of the Benazir supporter protesting against the imposition of military rule in form of emergency.Ms Bhutto said Today, the Pakistani opposition and its supporters will begin a march from the city of Lahore to Rawalpindi on 13 November, unless General Musharraf steps down as head of the army. Ms Butto said Peoples Party of Pakistan 400 supporters have been arrested today.

Her call for protest soon came after three days of protests by lawyers quelled with force by General's force, at the instance of the deposed Chief Justice of Supreme court on his phonecall to lawyers rhetorically to revolt against President Gen. Pervez Musharraf's imposition of emergency and a crackdown on the opposition that has left thousands under arrest.

She urged the president to agree to several other opposition demands, including restoring the constitution and staging elections in January as scheduled.

Bhutto says she is deeply worried that nuclear-armed Pakistan is heading towards an internal implosion. "There's been a rise of extremism, and instead of concentrating on battling the terrorists, the government is spending its energy against lawyers, political activists and the press - the very elements of a civilised society that are needed to confront terrorism."

She urged the president to agree to opposition demands, including restoring the constitution and staging elections in January as scheduled and Re appointment of election commissioner to initiate process of election.
`For elections to be credible, opposition political party leaders and their party workers must be released from jail or house arrest. The media must be free to report on events and share their opinions with the public,'' U.S. Ambassador Anne Patterson said after meeting the head of the election commission on Tuesday.
Ms Bhutto gave him a deadline of until Friday to comply.
