Italy snap polls April 2008

President Giorgio Napolitano,made an effort to form an interim government to bring electrol reforms and the Senate speaker Franco Marini to find cross-party support for an interim government to legislate a change in elections so they produce a more decisive outcome has failed to produce any results.

Failure to reach to any understand for the electrol reforms has paved the way president to order for the dissolution of parliament this week and a poll on the existing law on April 6 or 13.

Forza Italia Leader Silvio Berlusconi, who wants immediate elections the 71 year-old two time Prime Minister, media-magnate,businessman-turned-politician, who is pushing to lead a center-right coalition to a third election victory, rejected all talk of an interim government to approve a new electoral law."The only path is to return to the polls to give the country an immediately operative government," Berlusconi spoke to journalists after meeting Napolitano.

He has threated to call for street protests if elections are not called.
