BASIC commits to negotiate for equity in Durban

The crucial meeting of the Environment Ministers from Brazil, South Africa, India and China or BASIC was held on Sunday in New Delhi,the participants assessed the post Cancun climate change policies apart from working out strategies for the next climate summit to be held in Durban in December.Other concerns like global goal and equitable access to sustainable development were also taken up.

Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh after the meeting said that the issue of equity, IPR and trade are important for basic quartet and with the help of G-77 support they bring these issues and other Bali roadmap issues back into the mainstream negotiations.Jairam Ramesh said that the two issues that has remained critical in the way beyond Kyoto in Climate talks are the second commitment period of Kyoto Protocal and the fast smart financing.
