29th March, 2011:Chandigarh:Northern India Amateur Golf Championship,played at Chandigarh:Local lad Abhijit Chadha atop leader board on day one at Northern India Amateur Golf Championship, Chandigarh :Local hero Abhijit Chadha has taken a first round lead over the windy conditions at the Northern India Amateur Golf Championship in Chandigarh Golf Club, Chandigarh today. Chadha shot one-under 71 to take the day one lead while Chikkarangapa from Bangalore finished second with a level par score along with Honey Baisoya of Delhi. Another Bangalore lad Udayan Mane returned with a score of two-over 74 along with Sidharth Seth of Delhi to share the third place while Varoon Parmar of Chandigarh carded three-over 75 to finish in fourth position.

The 20-year-old Chadha did not have a very good start but birdies on 6th, 13th, 14th and 17th holes made him take one stroke lead. Winner of the Faldo series Asia grand final 2011 Abhijit Chadha said, “The course was playing very tough today and I think I was not hitting the way I wanted. I am glad that chipping and putting really saved me and I could finish with the best score of the day.”

The harsh windy conditions made it hard for majority of the leading players to perform well. Rahul Bajaj of Noida who recently won the silver medal in Asian Games did not play very well as he returned with the score of five-over 77 while the winner of recently held Haryana Open, Delhi’s Arshad Ali ended the day with the score of six-over 78.
