HUNGARIAN FILM SCREENINGS
In cooperation with Epicentre, Gurgaon

A package of 3 Hungarian films will be screened at Epicentre, Gurgaon as per the following schedule:

September 10
DOWN BY LOVE directed by Tamás Sas (2002), colour, 90 mins.

Twenty-four-year-old Éva has lived for years in the flat left to her by her parents. The only meaning in her restricted life is her secret affair with Tibor, a forty-four-year-old married man. The unusual plot of the film is told in an unusual way. With great vigour a single actress manages to bring a feeling of desperate loneliness to her 90-minute performance.

September 17
CONTROL directed by Nimród Antal (2003), colour, 106 mins.

This film is a special mixture of tale and reality, down below, under the ground. The story is about a strange young man, Bulcsú, his fellow inspectors, who are all without exception likeable characters, a rival ticket inspection team, racing along the tracks, perhaps about love and starting anew.

September 24
FRESH AIR directed by Ágnes Kocsis (2006), Colour, 109 mins.

Viola is still a beautiful woman. Angéla is ashamed of her mother. Communication between them has become almost impossible. Probably, in secret, they both are in love with the protagonist. Viola works where no one else wants to. She is looking for a real man whom she could love. Angéla would like to design nice dresses. She desires something different. Another life. Fresh air.

FÁBRI FILM CLUB – THORN CASTLE (Tüskevár)
Hungarian film, directed by György Balogh (2012), colour, duration: 99 mins.

This modern adaptation of the classic Hungarian youth novel by István Fekete is an amazing and timeless adventure story.

It's a coming-of-age tale about two boys who spend their summer vacation down at the lake. Skipper is rewarded with the countryside vacation by his parents because of his good school grades. He is a typical urban teenager and completely clueless about nature. The old ranger, Uncle Matula, who is wise and humorous, begins to teach Skipper all he needs to know about getting along in the country, just in time for his best friend Bunion to arrive. The friends discover the wilderness and become young adults by the end of the summer.

This film is for everyone who ever longed to escape to the wonders of nature. Filled with the beauty of the Hungarian countryside, you can almost smell the food.

EXPRESSIONS OF...
Group exhibition for four Indian artists

Sangeeta Marwah, Ritika Chopra, Shruti Vij and Ravneet Kaur

"You are a person, beautiful and unique... express yourself, strengthen yourself, kick yourself, wet yourself with tears, dry yourself with confidence, say how you feel, love like it's real, be who you are, never let anything make you believe your life isn't worth living..."

EXPRESSIONS MAKE US... they are what set us apart from other creatures. Sometimes we let affection, go unspoken, sometimes we let our love go unexpressed, sometimes we can't find words to tell our feelings, especially towards those we love the best. Creativity and self expression generate happiness. Four of us have got together to celebrate the myriad shades of Life- EXPRESSIONS.

This exhibition is an attempt to bring some self expressions which emerge from inspiration that is sparked by the reflection of our artworks.

(The exhibition will be on view on weekdays from 10:00 am till 4:00 pm.)

ORFEO, CROSSING THE GANGES by Monteverdi
with a Hungarian lead singer

The Neemrana Music Foundation presents an Opera with a lead singer Dávid Szigetvári (tenor) from Hungary, who won the First Prize of the Johann Sebastian Bach International Competition Leipzig 2012.

"Orfeo" is considered to be one of the first in opera history (1607), an opera in which Monteverdi merged the arts of poetry, of theatre and of music for the first time.

In the story of 'Orfeo, crossing the Ganges', Orfeo travels to India and falls in love with Eurydice, dancer consecrated to the service of Lord Shiva. He kidnaps her and marries her, thus provoking the fury of the Grand god: the cobra around Shiva's neck kills Eurydice. Orfeo's quest in the beyond to find the beloved, is like a crossing of the Ganges to the holy city of Varanasi. Presumptuous victim of his illusions, Orfeo fails and is put to death.

(Please collect your passes from Neemrana Shop (23-B) in Khan Market from 10th of September)
